Snoops is not a baby anymore...

Ahhhhh, Domi lost his first teeth today, the dentist pulled the lower two middle because the permanent teeth were emerging. So bittersweet, he is growing so fast, such a little man and longing to be a big brother! Drop dead gorgeous as ever, and it's not lost on girls of all ages!!! ;)

What a SUMMER!

Wow, we just got back from Ethiopia to visit Domi's new baby sister Aubrey! Our court date was on Monday, June 17 and all went very well. We did have plenty of free time the rest of the week and hired a recommended guide named Joel to show us around. We visited the National Museum and had a great docent who told us about the history of Ethiopia, art and culture and of course shared the discovery of "Lucy" - skeletal remains that advanced the study of evolution. We then had a wonderful lunch at Lucy's CafĂ©, great food and beautiful restaurant.

We also visited Entonto Mountain and Museum, as well as St. Mary's church and the castle of late Emperor Menelik II. So much amazing history in Ethiopia! We picked up some postcards to frame and put in Aubrey's room. We also shopped at the Post Office shops and enjoyed bartering for our goodies, Dominic was a pro with his charming ways and walked away with good deals on Ethiopia soccer jerseys for him and Dan! Aubrey will be raised to be proud of her heritage!

One of my favorite excursions was our visit to the Former Women Fuelwood Carriers Association (FWFCA) compound. You can read more about them here http://www.connectedinhope.org/get-involved/. Basically, these women would gather pieces of wood and bundle them on their back, carry them long distances up and down mountains and sell them to provide for their families. These loads were extremely heavy and physically demanding. The Connected in Hope organization helped find the compound and set up weaving looms so these ladies could make scarves and baskets and become artisans as a new livelihood. We bought several scarves that are so lovely, and are so touched by this amazing story!

We have only been home a week but managed to squeeze in a play date with Ethan, saw Shrek the Musical and had dinner at Brio with Janel. Good to be home and enjoying summer despite the heat!

Spring Happenings

Last week Domi's school had an art fair and Spring Concert. Of course we purchased his framed self-portrait, very sweet! This week his class went to the Aquarium for a field trip and had Field Day on Friday. Here are some very sweet photos of Domi with his classmates - enjoy!

Our Basketball Star AND Fashion Trend Setter

On Friday evening we went my nephew's Special Olympics track meet. We are so proud of Joey, he won gold medals in both of his events!
Dominic enjoyed a birds eye view  of the track events on Dan's shoulders, a sweet picture.
Dominic is loving his first season of basketball. He just played his second game on Saturday and scored two baskets, he scored one in his first game too so he is on an upward trend. We think we are going to let him play next season too since it is indoors and he loves it so much.

He also is rocking these very odd and long socks in these pictures. We did not order them with his uniform but his coach had an extra pair he gave to us. Most kids skip them, scrunch them down or roll them down because they are so long. But Dominic decided to wear them up his entire leg, they are like women's thigh high stockings (who wears those dreadful things???). I say "You let your crazy little freak flag fly Dominic, you fly it high and proud!". :)

Catching up on 1st Quarter 2013

Whoa... I have not updated this blog in 3 months! Sorry about that, we have been so busy as usual! Here are photos from Christmas and 2013 to date. Some highlights of the last few months:
  • Christmas and New Year's: Domi had a great time performing in the Christmas Show at his school. New year was off to a fun start indeed. We saw Cathy Rigby in "Peter Pan", Domi loves musical theater as much as I do! We enjoyed time with my sisters from CO over the holiday break. We saw the light show in west Phoenix and holiday lights in the Moon Valley neighborhood. We also had a nice turkey dinner with Monica.
  • EXCELLENT progress in reading at school! Domi is now reading at the 1st grade level and is a "Master" in all subjects (except religion, but he will get there - Catholic school is not always easy!).
  • 6th Birthday party at the Bowling Alley - cosmic bowling with 20 classmates - very fun! We had a BLAST making the construction themed cake and enjoyed the coordinating pinata.
  • 1st out of town swim meet in Tucson! He killed it and swam personal best times in all events! We enjoyed our stay at the Westin La Paloma, you have to splurge once in awhile, right? Also celebrated at Red Robin with a GIANT birthday sundae and Domi was *stunned* when the wait staff sang to him. :)
  • Of course we had to do his annual photo shoot for his birthday and Easter. My babycakes never takes a bad picture!
  • Renaissance Festival - can you say cutest knight ever? He and his pal Ethan had a blast and so did we! Of course we left with a knight helmet and shield... Domi promised he would be a knight for Halloween next year.
  • Easter! Brunch with the Cerrito family and egg hunt at our house. Peaceful and beautiful day!

Winter 2012

Busy and fun time of year for sure! In mid-November Domi particpated in his firt swim-a-thon at Scottsdale Aquatic Club, he is the youngest kid on the team! He beat his goals, he planned to swim 40 laps and raise $250 but he actually swam 104 laps and raised over $600! Way to go Domi!

The day before Thanksgiving his school had Grandparents Day and my Dad and Dan attended mass with him, and made decorations in the classroom. I joined the fun afterwards to watch the very sweet Thanksgiving kindergarten performance.

Last weekend we headed to the North Pole Experience in Flagstaff to tour Santa's Workshop. We usually do the Polar Express train ride in Williams, so this was a new experience for us. We really liked the hotel and had a blast on the two horse drawn sleigh ride, my Mom and Dad were with us and we sang Christmas carols on the ride. Then we headed to the workshop and really had a great time, Domi was thrilled with each and every room that featured a different part of the toy making process. We also made toys for charity which was very special.

The hotel had their grounds gorgeously decorated and had a two mile hiking trail in the woods just behind the building. We had fun hiking, taking pictures and laughing as Domi directed us to take photos of him acting like Big Foot!

Yesterday we went to see "Junie B: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells" and had a great time! The Childsplay organization did a great job and we really like the Temper Center for the Arts venue. Of course we left with two souveneirs, a jingle hat and Junie B glasses.
